Roger L. Boltz, OD, '72, PhD, '78, FAAO, is UHCO Alumnus of the Year

Roger L Boltz, OD, ’72, PhD, ’78, FAAO recently received the 2018 UHCO Alumnus of the Year award at the college’s graduation ceremony held on May 12, 2018. In his brief address to graduates, Dr. Boltz said as they enter the profession, patients will view them as being knowledgeable, skilled and competent.
“And, people who know you will think of you as an optometrist who is intelligent, trustworthy and ethical. I wish you all a happy life.” he said.
Since 1978, Dr. Boltz has been a faculty member and has held numerous positions at the college including Professor, Associate Dean of Professional Studies, Interim Dean and more recently as Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.  His clinical and teaching interests were in the area of cornea and contact lenses. Outside the College, Dr. Boltz was elected as Chair of the Graduate and Professional Studies Council four times and served on the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education for nine years, becoming Chair in 2009.
Dr. Boltz is officially retiring from UHCO on May 31, 2018 and when asked about his legacy, he said: “I feel I’ve helped the place run and helped make it the best school that it can be. Personally, if people have good thoughts when they hear my name that will be enough.”
