Biography

Dr. Lauri Nurminen is a neuroscientist whose research focuses on the cortical mechanisms of visual perception. He wants to understand how neural circuits in the cortex enable the computations that underlie perception. His work helps to uncover how disruptions in these neural circuits contribute to altered visual perception in conditions such as autism, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease.

At UHCO, Dr. Nurminen leads a research laboratory that uses high-density electrophysiology, optogenetics, and behavioral analysis to investigate how neural computations give rise to perception and behavior.

Dr. Nurminen earned his Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Utah and the Salk Institute. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the University of Houston, and the Kavli Foundation.
