The University of Houston College of Optometry has named Dr. Abraham Bromberg as the recipient of its 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award. The honor recognizes Dr. Bromberg’s significant contributions to the field of optometry, including his leadership in advancing optometric education and practice in Mexico and internationally.

A graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry, Dr. Bromberg has spent decades shaping the profession through his involvement in national and global efforts. He has served as president of both the College of Optometrists of Mexico City and the Mexican Association of Faculties, Schools, and Councils. His work has supported efforts to expand educational opportunities, promote professional development, and improve access to eye care across Mexico.

“Dr. Bromberg’s career reflects a deep commitment to the profession and to public service,” said Michael Twa, dean of the UH College of Optometry. “As an alumnus, his dedication and leadership have brought distinction to the College. This award is a meaningful way for us to recognize his impact and contributions to optometry.”

Dr. Bromberg has also been recognized by international organizations for his work, including receiving the 2025 International Optometrist Award from the World Council of Optometry and the Essilor Award for Outstanding International Contributions to Optometry from the American Academy of Optometry.

He will be presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award during the UH College of Optometry’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston.
