The Clinical Sciences Department seeks those with interest and experience in contact lenses to join the Clinical Sciences Department. Candidates should have broad clinical experience with contact lens fitting and practice, as well as expertise in the care and management of anterior segment disorders including dry eye conditions and ocular surface disease.

This is an open-rank, clinical non-tenure track faculty position. Clinical Science Department faculty are responsible for patient care, teaching, academic service, and scholarship related to their program area. Teaching experience related to evidence-based clinical practice and familiarity with interprofessional collaborative practice settings is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have an OD degree and should have completed a residency/fellowship program or have equivalent relevant clinical, academic, or other experience.
  • Should have experience with clinical teaching and mentoring.
  • Must be eligible for optometric licensure in the state of Texas.

Candidates should have broad clinical experience with the prevention, diagnosis, and management of common ophthalmic conditions encountered in a general eye care practice or community health setting that include: refractive and binocular anomalies, ocular and systemic disease, as well as the fundamentals of primary care contact lenses, pediatrics, low-vision, etc.

This is an open-rank, clinical non-tenure track faculty position. Clinical Science Department faculty are responsible for patient care, teaching, academic service, and scholarship related to their program area. Teaching experience related to evidence-based clinical practice and familiarity with interprofessional collaborative practice settings is preferred. Rank will be will be commensurate with the final candidate’s credentials and experience.

The Clinical Sciences Department seeks a non-tenure track senior research scientist with expertise in optical instrument design, and construction to serve as program manager and senior designer for a National Eye Institute (NEI) funded core facility dedicated to Instrument Design. The senior research scientist would be responsible for day-to-day operations of facility that provides support to vision scientists at UH by designing, prototyping and machining custom instrumentation for their projects. The ideal candidate also would provide tutorials in optical design, light measurement and related areas to graduate and postdoctoral trainees.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in a STEM discipline that includes design and use of optical instruments
  • Postdoctoral training in optical instrumentation including work with lasers 15+ years of experience designing, building and modifying optical instrumentation in industrial and academic settings, 5+ years in team or program management roles.
  • Peer reviewed publications of original research in relevant areas.
  • Specific experience in design and maintenance of adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopes and other custom optical instruments is desirable.
  • Experience in spectroscopy and light measurement.
  • Skill in electronics, designing building and trouble shooting.
