Biography
Dr. Andrew M. Archila is Associate Dean for Clinical Operations and Clinical Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he brings more than two decades of military, hospital, and academic experience to advancing clinical education and patient care.
A native of the Chicagoland area, Dr. Archila earned both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the University of Houston. He went on to earn an MBA in Health Care Administration from the City University of New York and completed a Fellowship in Clinical Administration and Optometric Management at the State University of New York College of Optometry.
He then served 22 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Captain. Over the course of his military service, he held key leadership roles—including Officer in Charge, Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer—where he oversaw healthcare operations, budget management, and patient care in large and complex clinical settings.
Dr. Archila’s service and leadership have been recognized with multiple Navy service medals as well as professional honors, including Navy Junior Optometrist of the Year (2003) and the Armed Forces Optometric Society’s Navy Optometrist of the Year (2014).
At UH, Dr. Archila is dedicated to advancing clinical education, healthcare management, and the training of future optometric professionals.
