UHCO Mourns the loss of a Visionary and Friend

Posted On: 07/30/2015

UHCO is saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Brien Holden, PhD, DSc, FAAO on July, 27, 2015 in Sydney Australia, and we extend our condolences to the family.

A passionate humanitarian with global view, Dr. Holden served as CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute and Professor at the School of Optometry at UNSW Australia. His life’s work was service…to the scientific community, to the health care community and to individuals in need of vision care regardless of their geographic location or their financial limitations.

Larger than life with an infectious laugh that could easily fill a room, Dr. Holden had an absolute passion for his work. His commitment and unyielding dedication inspired generations of scientists and optometrists to share in his dream of ‘vision for everyone, everywhere.’  With his passing, his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched on every single continent.

Dr. Holden received numerous accolades during his career and although he deeply appreciated these honors, seeing someone being fitted with glasses for the first time, eyes wide in wonderment as they saw their loved one’s faces clearly in that first moment was priceless and the catalyst that drove him in all that he did.

Rest in Peace Mate.
