Muhammad Ahmed, a second-year optometry student at the University of Houston College of Optometry, won a 2020 Good Neighbor Scholarship.

The state scholarship exempts recipients from the payment of tuition for the 12-month period beginning with the fall semester following the award. The GNS program is designed to encourage academically talented students from select countries to pursue higher education in Texas.

Ahmed, who is from Calgary, Alberta in Canada, earned a bachelor’s degree in General Science from Mount Royal University. During his undergraduate studies, he did several vision-related research projects.

He is interested in sports vision care and research.
