McDaid-Ellisor Scholarship Endowment

Kevin McDaid graduated from the UH College of Optometry in 1989 and was a successful practitioner and Senior Vice President of Vision Source, Inc. Dr. McDaid believed that independent optometrists could be very successful  if they utilize resources the optometric industry provides in people, products and technology. He believed in the education of students and sharing the ideals he believed in to ensure success in an increasingly competitive market. Dr. McDaid passed away on April 8, 2001.Vision Source is the nation's premier network of independent doctors of optometry with more than 2,700 doctors in over 1,400 practices across the United States. Headquartered in Kingwood, Texas, Vision Source was established on May 1, 1991 by Dr. Glenn  Ellisor, a 1984 UH College of Optometry graduate. Dr. Ellisor has served as President and CEO of Vision Source since its inception.  Each Vision Source practice is dedicated to maintaining the special relationship between a patient and his or her family eye doctor.

Criteria:

  • This scholarship is to fund a full-time or incoming OPT student at the College of Optometry
  • Renewable provided the student continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Current students must have a GPA of a 3.2 or higher with university coursework and entering students must have a GPA of 3.4 or better with a minimum OAT of 300. 
  • Recipient must be in good academic standing and meet UHCO eligibility requirements. election is made by the College of Optometry Scholarship Committee.
