E.M. (Mac) and Melba Wright Scholarship

This agreement was between Dr. David Wright, Mr. Gary Wright, Mrs. Melba Wright, and their families, and the Foundation for Education and Research in Vision (FERV). Optometry has always been a family affair for the Wright family. Dr. Mac Wright and his wife Melba opened their optometric practice in Seminole, Texas, in 1963. The Wrights understood the need for medical proressionals in rural communities, and as the only optometrist serving Gaines and Yoakum Counties in West Texas, they invested a lifetime serving that need. Dr. Mac and Melba Wright were married 47 years and she has served as the optometric practice's office manager since it was first opened. Their son, Dr. David Wright, joined the practice in 1984 and continues to work with his mother and dedicated staff in both the Seminole and Denver City optometric offices. Dr. Mac Wright loved his community and his profession. He was very active in the Texas Optometric Association and served as a member of the Texas State Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Mac was named the Texas Optometrist of the Year in 1990.
