Dr. Sam Quintero received his optometric training at the University of Houston College of Optometry. After receiving his doctorate in 1972, he joined the faculty of the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Quintero is currently the Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is certified as a Therapeutic Optometrist and his interests include contact lens practice, diagnosis and management of ocular disease and laser and other refractive procedures. Dr. Quintero is Head of Research for the Texas Eye Research and Technology Center (TERTC) at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Quintero is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has served as Chair of the Section on Optometric Education for the American Academy of Optometry. He is Chair of the Association of Practice Management Educators. He is a member of the Texas Optometric Association and serves as a member of the Continuing Medical Education Committee and is also a member of the American Optometric Association. He serves on several task forces for the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO). He has been recognized for his contributions to education by the Texas Optometric Association having received the Educator of the Year Award in 2005. He was also recognized for his contributions to the American Academy of Optometry, receiving the Eminent Service Award in 1998. In addition to his academic interests, Dr. Quintero maintains an active private practice in Houston, Texas.
